The increasingly popular avocado is extremely nutrient packed. Half an avocado is an ideal serving size with 194 calories and yes… Avocado is a Fruit!

It’s a perfect first food for little ones. I remember the ease of packing one in my handbag with a spoon, taking to coffee group, mashing, opening and feeding. It even has its own bowl!

There are 3.5 grams of unsaturated fat in one serve, this is hugely important for the growth of the brain and central nervous system for little people. Avocados are rich in protein, vitamins A, B and minerals such as potassium, calcium and iron.

Ripening these bad boys can take 7-14 days. It’s always slower at the start of their season and gets quicker towards the end. However, you can prolong their life by putting them into the fridge when they are ripe and taking them out for a day or 2 before use.

Avocados are the main ingredient in the super delicious and nutritious Mexican delight “Guacamole”, To make this add – 3 Haas avocados, halved, seeded and peeled, 1 lime, juiced, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp cayenne, 1/2 medium onion, diced, 1/2 jalapeno pepper, seeded and minced (optional for heat), 2 tomatoes, diced, 1 Tbs chopped coriander, 1 clove garlic, minced… Yummo.
